CSP Annual Appeal 2025

How your donation makes a world of difference

Your donation to CSP helps us offer free or very affordable string instruction to every child or young adult in the East Bay. What they learn will last a lifetime. Study after study has shown that learning to play can lead to better social skills, self-discipline, higher organizational skills, and superior academic performance. And working in groups and performing on stage builds empathy, leadership, confidence, and self-esteem. Not to mention, it’s just plain fun.

"I kind of have a schedule. I try to play my violin after practice and once or twice on the weekend."

– Matilda D.

"Mom, guess what? I get to practice, but not with the bow, only plucking!"

– Lucenzo P.

Things you may not know about CSP

CSP serves, on average, 110 students in grades 3-12 and 80 adult students (ranging in age from 16-80), including those studying classical guitar.

After-school classes for 3rd-5th graders are held in their own local school buildings.

To keep participation at an affordable price point, 100% of lessons are subsidized to some extent. 36% of students receive full scholarships.

Within just four years of playing many CSP students have achieved top ratings at the statewide RIMEA Orchestra Festival.
