Adult Orchestral Strings Programs

The Community String Project offers lessons for high school students and adults on the violin, viola, cello, and bass in 15-week sessions..  Aspiring musicians start in the Beginning Adult Ensemble.  Experienced musicians will be guided to the appropriate intermediate or advanced ensemble.  Registration for Beginning Adult Ensemble occurs every fall.  Experienced musicians can join in the fall, spring or the eight week summer session.  Rehearsals for Beginning, Intermediate and Chamber Ensemble are at the First Congregational Church in Bristol.  Rehearsals for the Advances String Ensemble are at the Bristol Veteran's Home.

Classes offered are:

Beginning Adult Orchestral String Ensemble - Nathan Rodriquez, instructor

Teens/ Adult students learn violin, viola, cello, or bass in a group setting. No previous instrument knowledge is needed; ability to read music is helpful but not necessary. 

Class held Tuesday evenings, 6:00-7:40pm at the First Congregational Church in Bristol.

Intermediate Orchestral String Ensemble - Nathan Rodriquez, instructor

Designed for beginner/intermediate-level students who are developing ensemble skills. Students will focus on developing their skills in bow articulations, note reading on all strings, and tone quality. Students should be comfortable playing in the keys of D,G, and C major.
 Class held Thursday evenings, 6:00 - 7:40pm at the First Congregational Church in Bristol. 


Advanced Chamber Ensemble - Nathan Rodriquez, instructor
This ensemble is for the advanced string player and explores baroque and classical repertoire,styles and techniques.

Classes held Thursday evenings, 7:40-9:20pm at the First Congregational Church in Bristol.

Advanced String Ensemble - Mary Casale, instructor

Designed for intermediate and advanced students who are comfortable playing in a string ensemble. Students will explore a variety of genres and styles while increasing their individual and ensemble skills. Through warm up exercises and a broad variety of repertoire, skill development will focus on scales, arpeggios, intonation, shifting, articulations, advanced bow techniques and vibrato.  Students should be comfortable playing music in the keys of D, G, C, F and B flat major.

Classes held Monday evenings, 6:00 - 7:40pm at the Bristol Veteran's Home.

Instrument Rental

CSP has a select number of instruments for adult rental. Rentals are based upon availability and are issued on a first come, first serve basis. Please complete the Adult Instrument Form if you are interested in renting a CSP instrument. 


Students may choose to “rent to own” an instrument from the following recommended dealers.  Please contact them for pricing.
